Servicing the Outdrive
Servicing the Outdrive
2005 - Major work. The outdrive was really trashed from corrosion. So I removed the outdrive and gave it some TLC and a new coat of paint.
Now each year is a more normal routine . . . prep, antifouling paint and new anodes. I have been painting the prop, even though it is stainless steel, because it tends to keep the marine growth to a minimum.

I ground off most of the paint and fixed the pitted area as best I could. Then a fresh coat of primer and paint, topped off with anti-fouling paint. New and frequently replaced anode protection should protect the outdrive from further deterioration.
Some day when I have about $4K with nothing to do, I can think about getting a new outdrive.
2012 - More Refurbishment
After about 7 years of anti-fouling paint build up on the outdrive, I decided to grind the outdrive down and give it a fresh coat of paint. There were some pitted areas that I had filled when I first got the boat. Some of these areas needed to be re-worked. So, I applied some epoxy and sanded it down.
Then, I put a coat of outdrive primer and a final coat of gloss black. Of course, it will need the anti-fouling paint to be in the water for the season.
